Organic Farming in India is needed,
but why?
Increasing
population is the main problem of today and this rise in population is giving
birth to many other major problems and one of them is to satisfy the food demands
to such a large number of people. Changing weather conditions are not so familiar
with farming and crops production. So, farmers are facing a hard time. So, to
increase the production farmers are using more pesticides, chemical fertilizers,
and other methods which are harmful for human health and also have a bad impact
on the environment. Organic Farming is the solution for all these problems.
What is Organic Farming?
This is a
branch of agriculture in which crops are grown without using chemical
fertilizers and pesticides. Main aim of Organic Farming is to increase the
fertility of soil and crops or growing crops without harming the environment.
Main objectives of Organic Farming:
- Its
first objective is to increase soil fertility and improve people’s health by
providing them organic and healthy food to eat.
- Providing
the crops with essential minerals which are non-soluble in crops but are
effective on micro-organisms which harm the crops.
- Recycling
organic and carbonic matter by using organic nitrogen.
- Limit
the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
- Cattle
management, because cattle are a crucial part of organic farming and their
waste is used as fertilizers and pesticides.
- To protect the environment form harmful chemicals and their effects.
Benefits of Organic Farming:
- Soil
fertility increases and less irrigation is required because of nutrients rich
soil.
- It
reduces the overall cost of production because farmers need not to purchase
chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
- Yield
increases and so does the profit of the farmers.
- Quality
of soil improves with Organic Farming.
- Water
holding capacity of the soil increases and vaporization decreases.
- Water,
air and soil pollution decreases.
- Using
animals waste in farming reduces the wastage of chemicals and other insects.
- Organic products are more in demand these days so they are expensive and it profits the farmers.
Organic
Farming is the need for today because it is the only way for sustainable
agriculture without harming the environment. Many farmers across India are now
turning towards organic farming and quitting the use of chemicals. It is a
misconception in many people’s mind that yield decreases because of organic
farming and it affect their profits but this is not the case.
Yield decreases
because of no use of chemical fertilizers and it also cuts down the overall
cost of production and neutralizes the profits of the farmers as they were
earning from chemical farming.
